SADAQAH (CHARITY) IS THE ACT OF GIVING CHARITY VOLUNTARILY FI SABILLILAH
فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّٰهِ‎  (FOR THE CAUSE OF ALLAH).

Sadaqah also describes a voluntary charitable action towards others, whether through friendship, generosity, love, compassion or faith. These acts are not necessarily physical or involve money.

Simple good deeds such as a smile, removing harmful objects from someone’s pathway, or offering a helping hand are acts of Sadaqah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us the necessity of giving charity without delay, how it gives us protection, saves us from hellfire and also how it acts as a purifier of wealt

“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”  [Al-Tirmidhi]

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ZAKAT AND SADAQAH?

While Zakat is an obligatory charity due from every Muslim who has wealth above the Nisab, on a yearly basis, Sadaqah is an entirely voluntary charity which can be performed at any time of year.

Zakat contributions are also specific for individuals, calculated based on one’s wealth, possessions and liabilities.Zakat amounts to 2.5% of an individual’s annual savings, and cannot be given on behalf of another person.

Sadaqah Jariyah is ongoing charity. It is the form of charity that brings continuous reward for many years to come, even after we die. Any charity which continues to have positive effects on a community in the long-term, can be considered a Sadaqah Jariyah: building homes, schools and hospitals; installing long-lasting water systems

“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.” [Muslim]
